Cat-shaped statues in Thua Thien-Hue province celebrate Tet festival

The family is made up of five members and is located on the banks of the Huong (Perfume) river. Many people use the beautiful background to snap photos in order to keep memories of the Year of the Cat. The park situated along Le Loi street in Hue is fully decorated with many miniature figures for locals and tourists to take photos of. A cat-shaped statue can be found located at the foot of Truong Tien bridge. A young family enjoys snapping photos of a lovely cat-shaped statue while going to Dong Ba market. Gateways congested as people return home ahead of Tet

Lines of cars and motorcycles slowly depart the capital. A long traffic jam can be seen on Belt Road No. 3 at 5 p.m. on January 18, or the 27th day of the last lunar month. All of roads are fully occupied by automobiles, thereby forcing motorbikes to travel on the pavements or squeeze among queues of automobiles. Drivers take up to 30 minutes to escape the traffic built up in Linh Dam area before facing more congestion on the national highway. Motorbikes carrying personal belongings slowly make their way to the gateways. Despite having to wait in standstill traffic on roads, many people are happy at the prospect of being able to return to their hometown to celebrate Tet. Locals wait for passenger buses as they head back to their hometowns. Some vehicles are forced to move on the pavement to avoid traffic congestion on Khuat Duy Tien street. Vietnamese expats in Russia celebrate traditional Tet festival

The Embassy has prepared approximately 50kg of Dong leaves so a total of 230 Chung cakes can be made for the occasion. Making the Chung cakes has been an age-old tradition among Vietnamese people for several generations to prepare for the arrival of Tet. The cake is used as part of offerings to the ancestors during Tet and other special occasions. The purpose of the annual event is to help the Overseas Vietnamese community ease their home sickness as the Lunar New Year draws near. An art programme is also held at the Embassy of Vietnam in Russia as part of celebrations to welcome in the Year of the Cat.
