Vietnam aim for win in last group-stage game at AFF Cup
Vietnam are determined to beat Myanmar during their final group-stage game on Tuesday to enter the 2022 AFF Cup semifinals as the winners of Group B.
The game will kick off at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi and will be broadcast live on the FPT Play platform and VTV Can Tho channel from 7:30 pm (Vietnam time).
“Tomorrow, the team will play the last match of the group stage against Myanmar in Hanoi,” Vietnam’s head coach Park Hang Seo told a press conference in the Vietnamese capital city on Monday.
“It is also the first game of 2023, so we’ve truly prepared.
“We must win so that we can enter the semifinals as the group winners.”
Although Vietnam were held to a 0-0 draw by Singapore in their third group-stage game, they are still leading Group B with seven points.
The 2008 and 2018 winners can only be eliminated if they lose to Myanmar by eight goals and Malaysia defeat Singapore in their last matches.
Currently, Singapore rank second in the group, followed by Malaysia, Myanmar, and Laos.
In Group A, Thailand and Indonesia advanced to the semifinals as the group leaders and runners-up after defeating Cambodia 3-1 and the Philippines 2-1 on Monday, respectively.
Cambodia, the Philippines, and Brunei did not qualify.
The semifinals of the 2022 AFF Cup will be played on January 6 and 9 on a home-and-away basis.
The final will be held over two legs on January 13 and 16.
