Nguyen My Hanh, the Deputy Chief of the Office of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, held a press briefing on Thursday afternoon to announce that the Department would collaborate with the municipal Department of Information and Communications to handle the show entitled ‘New Tradition’ produced by designer Tuong Danh.
Nguyen My Hanh, a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, mentioned the controversial fashion show at a press conference on May 25, 2023. An image of the event, captured by Hoai Phuong of Tuoi Tre, was featured at the conference. The show garnered a lot of attention from the public and media outlets, and its impact is still being discussed today. |

During the show, which was held in Thu Duc City, part of Ho Chi Minh City, over two weeks ago, models donned ao yem, a traditional Vietnamese bodice, and daring ao dai, a traditional Vietnamese costume.
The show organizer will face sanctions for violating administrative procedures and disseminating offensive images online, according to Hanh.
The angry backlash against the fashion show after images and clips featuring models wearing provocative clothes dispersed on social media prompted authorities in the city to launch a probe into the show and adopt suitable sanctions against it.
